Katherine Jackson's Attorney: 'The Victory was for the Children'

Canvas background demo

Katherine Jackson's attorney, L. Londell McMillan, speaks with ET's own Kevin Frazier about Monday's court victory, how the family matriarch is holding up, and what the future holds for Michael Jackson's children.

"She's holding up well," says McMillan about Katherine. "You know, I worry about her, I'm sure her family worries about her, but she had a special pep in her step [Monday]. … She was there making sure she's going to be the guardian for her grandchildren, and she was there, making sure she's going to be the protector of her son's legacy."

"The victory was for the children first and foremost, to give them the stability and security they need in terms of where they're going to be," says McMillan about the hearing. "They want to be with grandma, so they'll be with grandma. She has permanent custody."

As for issues involving Michael's estate, McMillan says, "There were a number of issues pertaining to who's going to control the legacy and the estate of Michael Jackson, so there were various pending motions including whether or not we were going to be allowed to get information and discovery. We won that."

As for Prince, Paris and Blanket, McMillan observes, "I think Michael's children are doing fairly well under the circumstances. They look very healthy. They certainly look like they miss their dad. But they're in a very loving environment with many other grandchildren, and with a lot of support, and so that's a blessing for them."

On the rumors of a secret autopsy performed to determine if there was foul play in Jackson's death, McMillan says, "The insight is that there was reason for concern. There's reason for concern. And we're going to wait until the conclusive criminal reports and investigations and medical investigations are in before commenting."

Londell, the publisher of The Source magazine, is shown in a photograph with Michael in this month's commemorative Michael Jackson issue. The issue features exclusive photos of the King of Pop throughout his amazing career. McMillan has also represented such celebrities as Prince, Stevie Wonder, Usher, L.L. Cool J, Kanye West and Spike Lee.
