MJ's 'Would Be' Wonderland? Celebrity RealEstate

Much has been publicized about Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara, CA, but not many know about “Wonderland” – the Las Vegas, NV estate he was planning to call home after his “This is It” tour. Wonderland (MJ’s nickname for the property) was fit for the “King” and his children, primarily due to its elaborate security features, but he couldn’t make an offer for the $25 million dollar price tag at the time. Although Jackson never got the keys to the castle, he has a presence there, and so can you for $16.5 million. Wonderland is now listed on REALTOR.com®.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, MJ got that feeling of Neverland the minute he entered the gates. He began eyeing the home in 2007 when he was leasing another mansion nearby. Once his finances were in order, he planned to make Las Vegas the home where he would raise his children and perhaps do a Celine Dion/Barry Manilow type of concert stint on the Strip. The mansion struck a chord with Jackson, who vowed to never return to Neverland’s bad memories of his molestation scandal. Since this was to be his permanent home, there’s been talk of turning Wonderland of Las Vegas into the Graceland of Memphis.

Controlled security was a main draw for MJ, as safety was his biggest concern. As a matter of fact, one of the previous owners of the home was casino mogul Steve Wynn’s daughter, who was kidnapped in 1994. The current owners (also gaming tycoons) tightened security with a fence surrounding the compound, and three, owner-controlled gates for the main home, guest home and service entrance– which is a rare find in Las Vegas. Secret tunnels wind throughout the home and many of the doors are bulletproof and cleverly disguised as walls or cabinets to fool any intruders. There’s even a panic room that has its own oxygen supply and a separate, buried phone line so the wires can’t be cut.
