Michael Jackson Fans, Family and Friends Mobilize
To Counter Murray Trial Defense
Los Angeles, Oct. 27, 2011 – While Conrad Murray’s defense team argues
Michael Jackson is to blame for his own death, his fans from around the world
are uniting through The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait. Since the trial began,
the one-of-a-kind interactive work-of-art has seen a dramatic surge in its
number of participants.
David Ilan, an internationally renowned
pointillism artist, is using hand drawn dots on canvas to create the image of
Michael Jackson. Each dot represents a a fan somewhere in the world. More than a
quarter of a million admirers of Jackson have gone online to get a dot in their
name at http://www.MichaelJacksonTributePortrait.com. As more people get their dots, the image grows. Participation is free.
It will take one million dots to complete the dot drawing, but there is room for
many millions.
This charitable, global art project, which has attracted
the attention of the Smithsonian museum, is endorsed by Diana Ross, Jermaine
Jackson, Dr. Maya Angelou, Macaulay Culkin, George Lopez, Tom Mesereau, Larry
King, Nick Cannon, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Mickey Rooney, Louis Gossett, Jr.,
Rev. Jesse Jackson, Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Babyface and many others.
Jackson's former nurse, Cherilyn Lee, who testified at the Murray Trial this
week, has a dot in the area of Jackson's heart.
Other projects by the tribute artist have included the participation of David
Beckham, Scarlett Johansson, Vanessa Williams, Jerry Seinfeld and Maria
Shriver.
Ilan hopes the tribute will shift the spotlight away from the
Murray Trial and shine a light on Jackson's humanitarian legacy.
"Long after the trial is over, the portrait, made from the participation of millions of fans, will remind us of what an incredible talent and humanitarian Jackson was," Mr. Ilan said. "We hope the tribute will inspire people to carry on Michael's work to help sick and disadvantaged children, animals and the environment."
The Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait is endorsed by members of the Jackson family, as well as many of Jackson's friends and famous fans. It's the largest and most respected tribute in the world with participants in more than 180 countries.
"We're asking fans all around the world to get involved 'cause this is
really important," said Jermaine Jackson. "It's the biggest tribute to my
brother."
